Eagle Scout Project

Apr 2021 — Sep 2021

Project Description

Constructed a certified Monarch Waystation butterfly garden at Illinois Caverns State Natural Area following its 10-year closure to the public. The project addressed the Illinois Department of Natural Resources' dual objectives of site beautification and interpretive education improvements following its reopening.

Led a team of 15 volunteers from Boy Scout Troop 622 in the planning and execution phases, coordinating transportation logistics and managing the acquisition of materials including mulch, landscaping bricks, and native plants. The finished product established native nectar plants and milkweed host plants essential for monarch butterfly migration and included an educational certification sign explaining the waystation's purpose.
